Before 18 January 1961, learners with special educational needs in Port Elizabeth completed their education at various primary schools. Difficult circumstances, poor facilities and lack of specialised equipment necessitated the establishment of a separate school which was named Westview Special Secondary School. The initial school building housed only 240 learners and fifteen educators. Today we have 736 learners and 51 educators.

We are forever increasing our learner enrollment while striving to expand our programmes. This inevitability means that our growth exceeds the funding we receive. We could therefor always use more help.
A hearty welcome to Westview School of Skills, one of only three Schools for Skills Education in the Eastern Cape. Our school has been playing a leading role in the provision of vocational skills training for learners with special educational needs for more than fifty-five years. This success is attainable through the commitment of our devoted staff members and hard work of our disciplined learners.
With the loyal support of all role-players, we endeavor to build and improve on the successes of the past. I trust that the ideals and dreams you cherish for the future of your children will be realised at this school. Westview School has three HOD’s in the Academic Department and three HOD’s in the Technical Department. The Head of Department is required to lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities.
